File Description

When playing both Knights of the Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, you may have noticed when moving your PC around the different modules, you can map out the area where you can go. Then there are places where you can either buy maps, or download the area schematics to see the whole module mapped out. What if you could just use a simple thing like an armband and having download the area schematics?

TheChimp makes his FileFront modding debut by making a mod for both KOTOR games where you can download your area schematics. The author is obsessed with having each module mapped out. Hey, there is nothing wrong with that. I’m obsessed like that too. I use the Defender’s Wrist Console to download the area schematics for TSL, but I don’t have one for use in the original KOTOR game. This mod will be appealing for me to use in KOTOR. It’s simple to use. You equip it as an armband and activate it like you would a shield.

To get this armband in both games, have the cheats activated and type giveitem gps_locator.uti. If you’re like the author and hate to use the cheats, you can get it through normal game play. In K1, it’s in the footlocker you get your equipment at when Trask tells you there’s a problem on the Endar Spire. It will also show up in different parts of the game since the footlocker he put it in uses the same UTP tag in different modules in the game. Hopefully it doesn’t override any footlockers that have plot items. In TSL, you can get it like 30 different locations on Peragus. TSL uses a lot of the same tag names for different types of files and it’s really important to do a search on anything you consider doing item placement to see if there are duplicate tag names in different modules. Again, hopefully no plot items are messed up because of where it’s put in.

This file also uses the spells.2da file and if you are using it in your current game, you will need to have some .2da modding knowledge to do some file merging. Enjoy the mod! :D

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

This mod is for both KotOR and KotORII:TSL.

***WARNING! THIS MOD USES A MODIFIED SPELLS.2DA. IT IS CURRENTLY NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OTHER MODS USING THE SAME FILE.***

For KotOR:
Extract all the contents of the KotOR folder (except k_pman_sonic.nss) into your Override folder.

HOW TO GET THE ITEM:
It should be in your footlocker on the Endar Spire (along with an extra Vibroblade and 2 Blaster Pistols), and in the apartment on Taris. You can also add the gps_locator.uti file via the KSE. Add the man28_sonic.uti file to make it work underwater, or wait until you get the Sonic Emitter on Manaan if you haven't yet.

For KotORII:TSL:
Extract all the contents of the KotORII folder into your Override folder.

IMPORTANT! The files must be installed before the Peragus Fuel Depot is reached. Basically just start a new game, but it's only necessary if you want to use the GPS Locator when you're on the outside of Peragus, or in the Jekk'Jekk Tarr. Adding the lev40_spacesuit.uti file to your inventory after getting to the Fuel Depot won't work. If you don't want to use it on the outside of Peragus, you don't need to start a new game. The Jekk'Jekk Tarr can also wait until you go in as the Exile.

HOW TO GET THE ITEM:
The item (both human and droid versions) can be found on the broken protocol droid next to Kreia in the prologue, or the corpse in the Peragus morgue. The corpse only has the human version though. There's also a broken droid in the first room T3-M4 is in on Peragus. You could also use the KSE to add the gps_locator.uti and/or d_shield_22.uti files to your inventory. If you get the item in the Prologue, and then skip the rest, the Exile will have it when waking up on Peragus. If you complete the Prologue, or skip it entirely, the Exile will have no items.

DESCRIPTION

I was playing KotOR recently and being slightly obsessive, I tend to run everywhere to reveal as much of the map as I can. I thought it would be a good idea to create an armband that would do the job for me and save time, as I dislike using cheats (apart from using the KSE), and this is the result. It shows all important locations on the map.

It will show up in the same slot as regular armbands.

There's no droid version for KotOR (at least not yet, but if necessary/prodded with a sharp object I'll make one). I didn't see the point in one as you're nearly always the player character, and when you're not (the Leviathan) you're able to choose a human character anyway. Even if you use a droid, it's not that long before the player character is back in play. KotORII is different as there are points when you're forced to play as T3-M4, e.g. Peragus and Vogga's Warehouse.

KotOR: None that I know of with the item itself, but let me know if there is. All testing so far has worked, through the entire game. Found that due to the duplicate uses of container files, there's a few footlockers that will have one, including footlockers on the Endar Spire, Taris Apartment and the Black Vulkar base.

KotORII - TSL: Like KotOR, there's no item bugs known, but there's lots of duplicate containers. Just about any corpse covered by a sheet will have the item, and many broken protocol droids will too. If you explore everywhere on Peragus and collect all the items, you should have about 30+ by the time you leave. I've even found one or two on Malachor. You could always sell the extras for a healthy profit.

Also found that due to editing the Space Suit, it will show up in the armband slot. It works as well, even if the Space Suit is not currently equipped, so it's not really necessary to have more than one armband equipped.
