File Description

As the readme says, this mod adds a number of Republic uniforms to the game as wearable armor. Admittedly, I don't think they have as much of a place in TSL as they did in K1 (for the PC to wear at least), but I have to give props to Carter for completeness. You can recover several of these uniforms on the Harbinger and even create some others at the workbench. Most other item mods don't go that far.

Some of the game's Republic-affiliated NPCs have had their uniforms switched around. They're all right changes for the most part, though I preferred Grenn's old look. He looks too much like a regular trooper instead of an officer now. Although he says he's only a lieutenant, that term obviously means something else in the TSF than it does in other militaries - that he greets Admiral Carth/Cede when they arrive to Telos isn't the sort of job that gets handed to a lieutenant. But the semantics aside, I preferred the old look.

I particularly liked the skin in the first screenshot. It's a good outfit to have for Republic officers less important than admirals but more so than most others - I think it would look very good on Roland Wann (sp?) from the first KotOR. Wouldn't take much effort to port to that game either.

Note: Please remember to give the author of the mod feedback, as the download count isn't particularly verbose. Written comments tend to be much more useful and encouraging.

1. Description
********************

This mod adds the Republic armor as wearable items in Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. There are 24 new sets of armor in total, 6 using the soldier armor variant, 16 using the officer uniforms, and 2 using the Jal Shey/Zeison Sha model. Each set has different bonuses, etc. There are really only eight different appearances, since the differences between most of the skins are minor (just changes in rank insignia--more info on that later). You can create them at any workbench, but I’ve also added three to the game (two on the Harbinger, one in the TSF station on Citadel).

2. Installation
********************

1. Run the TSL Patcher. Make sure you select your SWKotOR2 folder, NOT your Override folder.
2. Copy everything in the ForOverride folder to your Override folder; if you don’t have one, make one. If you get a message asking you to rewrite, click cancel and follow the instructions under Compatibility Issues below; otherwise, you’re all set.
To uninstall: remove the appearance.2da, baseitems.2da, itemcreate.2da, and itemcreatemira.2da files from your Override folder, or replace them with a backup (I suggest you back up any .2da files before installing any mod, that way it’s easier to fix everything later). Then remove all the .tga, .uti, dlg, and .ncs files used in this mod (I’ll provide a list below).

3. Bugs
********************

Nothing major. I had to use the male model for the female soldier armors, but it doesn’t look *too* bad (I hope). Also, Bao-Dur will mysteriously grow an arm, there are some clipping issues with Visas’ head, and the first person views are a bit messed up with the officer variant. If you find anything else, let me know on FFF, LF, or email me at the address above (just don’t send me spam :P).

4. Compatibility Issues
********************

While I’ve used the TSL Patcher, there are still a few compatibility issues. First, it won’t work with any mod that uses the J or K slots in appearance.2da due to a restriction in the games engine that better men (and women) than me have failed at reverting. Second, you may need to do some .2da editing in order to make it work with any head mods. Finally, all the .dlg files are optional, so if you’re already using a mod that uses them, forget about them and just install everything else. You can still create the items at a workbench, or use the cheat console or savegame editor.

5. Rank Insignia
********************

Here’s a screenshot:

I’ve loosely based it on the US Army and Navy, as well as the Imperial rank insignia from the Original Trilogy. No, it’s not identical to either, but with reason; I *want* it to be different. :P The Republic Navy armor is red, black, and gold, while the Republic Army armor uses the TSF color scheme of blue, gold, and silver. I’ve always imagined the TSF as being a branch of the Republic Army in my little fantasy world. I’ve even made Green a colonel, but I couldn’t do that here since he explicitly states his rank in the game; I switched his uniform in order to match this. There are also some other minor changes throughout the game; I’ll let you find them for yourself. ;)
