As time goes on, Microsoft will continue to make and update their Windows operating systems. As technology keeps developing, new and supposedly improved operating systems will be released. When that happens, software and games get hit hard because they usually aren’t compatible with the new operating system.
Over the summer I read a lot about how people were having trouble with operating Knights of the Old Republic and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords with Windows Vista. When it came time for me to get a new computer, I was dead set against getting Windows Vista because I didn’t want to face the troubles many people were having and since I’m running KotorFiles, it’s best that I have both of my Knights of the Old Republic games in good working order.
A Dead Jedi makes his FileFront debut with a patch that will help you play Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords on Windows Vista. Since I’m still running Windows XP, I have no way to test this out. The author has made a list in his readme file of people who have tested this file out, so you’re basically using this at their word. I’m sure people will leave feedback in the comments about how this patch works so read from other Windows Vista users to see if getting this is worth it.
It’s very important to read the readme file on how to use this. Enjoy the patch! :D
Note: Please leave the author feedback, especially if you download this mod and use it. It really helps encourage the author to make more mods in the future.

====================================================== KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC II: THE SITH LORDS MODIFICATION ====================================================== AUTHOR:A_Dead_Jedi EMAIL:[email protected] (I don't usualy check it...) FILENAME:Kotor2 Windows Vista fix FILE SIZE:364 KB DATE RELEASED:12/28/07 DESCRIPTION:This is a fix for vista's annoying incapabilaty to play TSL without trying to start it about 5-9 times. It turns out that while Kotor and TSL have the same file (windows aplication extention, very important), they were made very differently from each other, and after cutting it open and gouging it, me and my friends were able to make it almost exactly like the Kotor one (but not exactly the same). INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:Put this in your Kotor 2 main directory, not your override. It will ask to overwrite a file of the same name. Do it. (back up the original, though.) If you don't have 7zip or winRAR, you can get the online for free (I recommend 7zip). COMMENTS:If you have at least 1.5 GB of ram, I recomend you put it into XP service pack 2 compatabilaty mode. BUGS: None that I know of. The file isn't used for modding, so it shouldn't conflict with your mods. I can give a 99% compatabilaty as it will still crash, though not nearly as much. That's Vistas fault. PERMISSIONS: If you would like do post this on another site go ahead, as I think everyone should have this. Just don't claim it as your own. Teasters:Spider dude Fro'fro A_Dead_Jedi This has been teasted on 3 different machines, including a 64-bit system, for those of you with Vista 64-bit. It's compatable with Intel and AMD procesors, just so you know, though I don't know why it wouldn't. It has also been tested on both the patched and unpatched versions for improved support, though you won't be able to patch it after this is instaled as the new file is different from the origonal. THIS MODIFICATION IS PROVIDED AS-IS AND IS NOT SUPPORTED BY BIOWARE/OBSIDIAN ENTERTAINMENT OR LUCASARTS OR ANY LICENSERS/SPONSORS OF THE MENTIONED COMPANIES. USE OF THIS FILE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND THE ABOVE MENTIONED COMPANIES OR THE AUTHOR IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED TO YOUR COMPUTER FOR THE USAGE OF THIS FILE.
