File Description

FlashFX Units Replacement Pack 3.5 for CD Service or limited-bandwidth broadband users. This file is a highly compressed version of the 766MB FlashFX 3.5 mod, and uses 7-zip technology. To uncompress this file you will need a program that supports 7-zip such as PowerArchiver, available here.

For more information of this highly acclaimed modification, see the original file's page here.

This pack was made due to the large number of requests for something to be done about the fact that the original file totalled 766MB, well over the maximum allowed 650MB for the CD service. Originally I intended to split the file into two packs instead so people could order each pack on a seperate CD, but this would cost them double. Instead I decided to implement 7-zip compression available with only a few archivers which effectively halfed the filesize from just over a gigabyte (uncompressed from 766MB) to 510MB. The only downside to this is that you need a specialist tool to uncompress the archive, and it will take a long time to uncompress (it took 2 hours to compress it!). However the benifits are that you can get this excellent mod even if you are a modem user you can still get ahold of this file and if you have limited bandwidth from your Internet Service Provider you can save around 250MB.

The installer from the original file is not included in this file as compressing an already compressed installer would almost certainly corrupt the data. Instead all you will have to do is install this mod manually, following the instructions below:

1. Uncompress the archive. You will need a program similar to PowerArchiver to do this, as conventional programs such as WinZip and WinRAR can't handle it.

2. Move the files within the folder that is created to your OFP directory following the pre-structured hierarchy. For example, move the files within "Addons" to the corresponding "Addons" folder in your OFP directory. Overwrite files if a dialogue box appears, and make sure the folder "FlashFxUR" is copied to your main OFP directory.

3. Put your OFP:R CD in a drive and double click on the "FlashFxUR" icon in the "FlashFxUR" directory. This will launch OFP, but you will not see the Bohemia Interactive splash screens, and you will notice a new graphical user interface with music playing. From here you can do whatever you want, and you will notice that 98% of the BIS units are replaced by community-made realistic ones. You will also notice new explosions and other effects. Have fun!

If you have any problems with the archive then please re-try before contacting us. Please also try uncompressing the archive with PowerArchiver 2004 if you didn't already do that. Make sure the files are in the correct directories. Make sure the "target" for the launch icon is set to the correct directory on your computer.
