While flare guns aren't new to PUBG exactly, seeing as they've featured in special games modes since early this year, they've always been confined to special events, and while that is still the case, PUBG Corp are considering adding them into the main game, depending on the success of further trials of the feature.
Flare Gun Stage 2 is currently available to play now as a public beta special event of sorts, and is effectively a standard PUBG game with the flare guns added back in. The way the system works is, alongside all the usual drops and care packages, there's also a rare chance to find a flare gun, which, when fired within the safe zone, triggers a care package to drop on your location.
Speaking on the Steam community page, the PlayerUnknown said;
This week’s event mode is going to be another test of the Flare Gun system, We’ve looked at your feedback from the last round, but want to gather a little more data before we pull the trigger on any changes or deploy the item to live. Unlike the long event before, this test will run from Wednesday until Saturday.
The special event is set in Erangel and will run until October 13 at 7pm PDT / October 14 at 3am BST, so if you want to get a taster of the potential future for PUBG, and of course put forward your own feedback on the flare gun feature, now is the time to do so.
