Many of you know the incredible Float32 mods for Shadow of Chernobyl, well, now they are here for Clear Sky!!!
The code is rather raw but I have tested the concept out rigorously thus why it took so long to release. It adds a small change to the engine and shouldnt have any effect on performance.
Basically, specular highlights will material dependant. So the dirt will not have a slender sun reflection but rather a very wide one simulating the dispersion of light across the surface being reflected from the uneven surface (dirt should be like a mirror). The best place to see this is in the morning at the clear sky base. Indoor lights are also affected. Don't worry, you'll have your tight reflections still on your shotgun barrel. The material is dynamic so float32 runs a simple algorithm to determine the material roughness and do the desired light dispersion.
I guess I should also note that this is just for the advanced DX9 and DX10 renderers.
Head on over to TheFloatingPoint to grab this wonderful mod.
