Way to glitchy for my taste at the moment. I think I've had more crashes with clear sky than with every other game put together, and it seems each patch fixes some but introduces more - with the latest one, i crash upon entering yantar.

#2 - Posted by: FFxSTALKERx (Staff) on 09-13-2008 at 11:14

I've had only one crash in the four days I have been playing it (though I started playing it with the 1.5.03 patch installed, then the 1.5.04 with a new game) Not sure what caused the crash, it might not even been STALKER related. I've had my antivirus crash games before with its stupid updates.

Loving the game and i think it is better then SoC the zone feels much more alive and all the new fetures like upgrading equiptment is great noting like a rifled Toz34 with slugs to destroy some military heads :D

I bought it on Steam 35.99 $ ...and i can't play until monday ( US date of release ) I heard from some ppl that it sucked......others say that it rocks......i will see !hopefully that the US version will have less bugs ! :P

 #5 - its great! - Posted by: jakey0 (Member) on 09-13-2008 at 21:54

i was a hardcore SoC fan and i probably couldn't count how many mods i have installed for it, for me clear sky is a whole lot better, first the graphics, i don't no about u but SoC graphics were slightly less then average,CS introduces way better dynamic lighting Cough*God Rays*Cough. and the A-Life system is great, however, its funny when ur talking to a stalker and then he suddenly drops to the ground and your like...uhhh is he dead? hmm just sleeping... better take his weapon! one time i snatched a sniper rifle worth like 2000 Ru! although there is some performance issues for me ATM (sometimes i got 40 FPS on the highest settings then suddenly it will just jump down between 10 and 25) but hey thats why i come to this site! hopefully the modding community will be as big as it was with SoC. Cheers

other than the storyline (they could have done it better and it at times it contradics the origional game like when you find out that sterok has talked to the professor before in CS and sterloks voice!) i find it a great game with kickass ideas like modifiying you gun in game. but im sick and tired of all the random crashes to the point im waiting for another patch before i reatempt the game (since you have to restart your game every patch)

#7 - Posted by: Sessioni (Member) on 09-14-2008 at 01:55

hmm.. I dont get you guys, my Clear Sky havent crashed a time. I'm playing without patches because I havent heard any good about them. Im at the moment going to Yantar but I cant because the large emission.

I've been holding out and reading lots of reviews. Hearing lots of things turn me off to wanting to play. Hopefully in a few months some good mods will deal with issues. Is it true all NPCs and Mutants are marked in your map!? And that the world is swarming with life to the point that it feels crowded? And that your PDA holds your hand and walks you through missions and the story like a baby? And that you need to have special detectors to find now invisible artifacts (and if you do detect them you have to bloody jump into an anomaly to get it)!?! And Areas from the original game aren't in this one (like the bar)? And the Map areas are still connected through only a handful of bottle-necked gates which force you to travel through the world in a more or less linear/controlled fashion? If half of this is true then I will be sad.

I have been taking it very slow with Clear Sky, finding all (most) of the stashes and most of the Artifacts, have found about 5 so far and I'm almost at Garbage, I'm also doing a lot of side quests (I won't spoil anything) I have played about 15 hours or so now :)

 #10 - Posted by: stalker4ever (Member) on 09-14-2008 at 11:37

Theyve cut out the bar and pripyat!Ive completed the game and i found only 4 useless artifatcs! The story line is Sh_t but the nights are dark! 3/5 :o

 #11 - Posted by: Stalin1878 (Member) on 09-14-2008 at 13:57

I got it on the 5th, but I have only played an hour since then. I haven't had it crash, but its pretty laggy and its not my system(uber PC). Its not got the same amazing atmosphere that SoC did, also the NPC's and laser guns, x-ray specs and homing nades =/ I have stopped playing and I am waiting for some more patches to be released. SoC was a good game, the mods made it great. I have 280 hours on SoC and I played through vSoC only once, the rest of the play time is mods. I really hope and look forward to the mode devs working there magic on CS. It would help a massive amount if those tards at GSC released the SDK! :@ Stalin.

all of the statements u made r true! (sept the one about the zone being crowded) the bottom line is CS is the game you hate to love and love to hate

 #13 - Posted by: Rahat_Habib (Member) on 09-15-2008 at 08:55

I don't have the game yet.:( When South Africa's a few days behind Botswana is a few MORE days behind! But anyways I'm sure I won't like it when I get it. Why? 'Cos I'll love it! And stop complaining about the bar when every faction base has one! Duty has its base in Agroprom so you'll still be able to visit. @ Moonracer13 Everything that seems bad to you is actually good to me. So there; My rating for the game = 94 percent. Crysis = 94 percent Bioshock = 94 percent SoC = 90 percent.

 #14 - Posted by: chug_muffin (Member) on 09-15-2008 at 11:28

Huh. It crashes absolutely loads. It crashed a little more than the average game at first; now it crashes immediately. Its such a shame, its a fantastic game (although frustrating at times) but now it seems i can't use any of my recent saves. I've lost about 5-6 hours playing time, all my recent saves crash after about 20 seconds.

Most bugged russian game since big riggs.

 #16 - No 15! - Posted by: stalker4ever (Member) on 09-16-2008 at 01:13

Its not russian its ukranian game!

#17 - Posted by: Sessioni (Member) on 09-16-2008 at 11:15

Today it started crashing  And that's annoying, it crashed in Agroprom research institute and when trying to go to Cordon from Garbage. Well, I hope GSC will make us a better patch soon so I could enjoy this brilliant game some more :D

 #18 - Posted by: Francoista4 (Member) on 09-17-2008 at 02:55

"Is it true all NPCs and Mutants are marked in your map!?" Yes, and I hate this, personally. Still, the ambient is excellent (snork attack in Cordon, at night; one of the most memorable moment from my whole gaming experience). I guess we should wait and hope some modder will remove this stupid cheat (how the hell could a pda detect precisely each movement of a mutant on a map??!). "And that the world is swarming with life to the point that it feels crowded?" It depends on how many people you let live in ;) "And that you need to have special detectors to find now invisible artifacts (and if you do detect them you have to bloody jump into an anomaly to get it)!?!" First part is correct, second makes it sound like a noob told you this. "And the Map areas are still connected through only a handful of bottle-necked gates which force you to travel through the world in a more or less linear/controlled fashion?" I haven't finished the game yet, but yes, from what I've played, it seems way more linear than SOC, unfortunately. Plus remember that there's only one end... :( People forgot to tell you the worst thing ever, even worse than bugs, and mutants appearing on the mnp: grenades. They appear on the *playscreen* (not just the mnp!!) as silly yellow logos. I really hope modders will kill this unwanted feature :/ Other than that, this game is truly addictive, don't get fooled by the negative comments it has (most of them are made by people who like the game and want it patched and modded!). I can't remember which other FPS kept me over 5 hours in front of my screen; even Doom3 that I loved required me some frequent breaks. There, there's always a thing to do, a matter of honor to deal with, a new weapon or artifact to discover...

#19 - Posted by: JamesKond (Member) on 09-17-2008 at 09:42

It only crashed with me when I had iTunes turned on.. which take out 100.000 K of my CPU so I'll just be using Winamp for music now

#20 - Posted by: Sikph (Member) on 09-17-2008 at 11:10

I've got quite a lot to say in response to most of the comments so far. Some I agree with, and some I don't. People complain a lot about performance and crashing which I have reached an excellent balance with. I find that I can max the game out as long as I stay clear of the (Dx10) Enhanced settings. Standard Enhanced Lighting runs perfectly on my 8800 GT, and looks just as good. I do miss the wet surfaces feature though, I think that's really neat. As for crashes, I very rarely get any. In fact, if I did get them frequently, I would remember and be annoyed about it, but they just rarely occur so I'm not fussed. As someone else said, I did start playing on the 1.5.03 patch so this may be the reason. PATCH YOUR GAME PEOPLE! :D "Is it true all NPCs and Mutants are marked in your map!?" Only the leader of squads are marked on the map, squads consist of 1-6 members on average. This includes npc's and mutants. The marker will remain on the map jumping to new squad leaders as you kill them until they are all dead, them the marker disappears. I agree that it does feel like cheating, but it does save a lot of time when you're trying to clear a zone for a faction. However, I feel it needs to let you toggle this feature on and off for people who like more realism. No doubt this will be removed in a mod. "And that the world is swarming with life to the point that it feels crowded?" The PDA makes it look more crowded, but it's not much more than SoC. It feels about right, and makes the faction wars more interesting rather than rare occurances. "And that you need to have special detectors to find now invisible artifacts (and if you do detect them you have to bloody jump into an anomaly to get it)!?!" I think this addition is really nice, it makes you work for your artifacts. You actually have to hunt in CS unlike SoC where you could see artifacts glowing miles away. You don't have to go into anomolies to get them, but dense anomoly fields make the experience more tense and exciting, so it's a worthy addition to the game. "And the Map areas are still connected through only a handful of bottle-necked gates which force you to travel through the world in a more or less linear/controlled fashion?" Yes, bottle-necked gates, but there are a LOT more of them. Each area can have around 6 entrances, each leading to a different area. It makes the zone feel more free than SoC in my opinion, seeing as we can't have one massive area for the zone, this does feel like the next best thing. I agree with others that grenades are evil. At least have the npc's miss on occasion, please! Whenever you see the yellow grenade logo in a fight, you have about 1 second to floor it in the opposite direction or you'll die instantly. Often running will still leave you with half health if you can't get away quick enough. Even with the 'issues' I can tell that Clear Sky has a ton of potential. If the modders lay their fingers all over it, they could make something amazing. The graphics are far superior, and the factions and upgrade system bring new life to the game. I look forward to the future!

I personally love this game, the only thing that could make it better is when people ( Not kanyhalos, I hate that guy ) move from SOC to Clear Sky.

#22 - Posted by: thescroll (Member) on 09-18-2008 at 15:53

I personaly have only one bug with the game, and that is the use of direct x 10. I have 1 TB of vram, 4 G of ram, and a quad core processor + vista, enough to run dx10. And it is, unless you ever want to touch the buttons in the menu. When i enable dx10 lighting, i cant click any buttons to save the game, change sliders, quit! But other than that, fantastic game, with good graphics, and not that bad of a hit in lag.

#23 - Posted by: Sikph (Member) on 09-19-2008 at 04:31

thescroll - I thought the same thing, and have the same spec (although 1TB vram? wtf?). There are a lot of settings you can bring down, and it will still look identical to Dx10 maxed. I made a thread about it here: http://forums.filefront.com/s-t-l-k-e-r-cs-modding-editing/378490-getting-best-visual-performance.html#post4585604 Included comparison screenshots as well.

Interesting jibe at Kanyhalos from #21... He made a great mod, although i read his forums and it seemed to me he refused to accept any reports of the mod not working propperly. Honest to god people'd say stuff like "oh this freezes the game" or "this part has stopped working" and kanyhalos would dismiss it entirely as their own stupid fault, not his. Still the mod was fine, i enjoyed it, so what the hell! On another note: if you patch SoC, will you have to start afresh?
