Trojanuch has released his mod that will change the way you enjoy S.T.A.L.K.E.R in such a way that your gaming experience will be heightened! The developer started this mod out as a little tweak to the weather cycle which was used in the Oblivion Lost mod; During his work on it, he started to change more and more variables, replace the sky textures, create new periods and so on, that, along with some other changes and additions gave life to this mod, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.Weather_Overhauled.

Some of the features of this mod include:

  • New weather settings for all outdoor game levels (clear weather for Pripyat, Yantar, Dark Valley etc)
  • Included StalkerSkies and Float32
  • Effective rain periods, thunder-storms
  • Completely re-done sun positioning / shadow settings - shadows are realistically long (check out the screens) and point to the proper direction. All this perfectly synchronized with time of day, geographical orientation (sun rises in the east and sets in the west) and visible sun position
  • Sun travel "emulated" with proper sky texture transition and sky texture color settings
  • New, sun-based lighting system which makes the game look much more like real-life - during the day the sun always gives at least some lighting, but the color, intensity of it and the way it transits form one setting to another is depended on the time, clouds, fog, angle etc.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.Weather_Overhauled is what you're after if you want to dress up the effects of your S.T.A.L.K.E.R game, and enjoy a whole new realism while you are fighting for your very survival.

Note: If you find that the nights are to dark for your tastes, the developer has provided a quick fix to lighten things up a bit, download it here!

TESTED ON STALKER VER.: 1.0005 (should work perfectly fine with 1.0004 - tested, and previous versions - untested)

FEATURES:

- new, sun-based lighting system which makes the game look much more like real-life - during the day the sun always gives at least some lighting, but the color, instensity of it and the way it transits form one setting to another is depended on the time, clouds, fog, angle etc.

- animated, dynamic sunsets and sunrises - no more entire hours of purple / red lighting - the sun gives these effects for a much shorter, realistic period in which it changes in intensity and color dynamically for your pleasure too watch

- new weather settings for all outdoor game levels (clear weather for Pripyat, Yantar, Dark Valley etc)

- included StalkerSkies and Float32

- effective rain pariods, thunder-storms

- more deatailed cycle, number of periods multiplied (there are more than 50 periods of the cycle, intead of vanilla 24) - a lot of 30 minutes and even 15 minutes periods (instead of commonly used 1h ones) to better reflect and control the subtle lighting weather changes

- cycle synchronized for Kiev, UK, 01.05.2012 (original idea by MrKlorox Badmagic and their DarkerNights mod, so credits for it go to them - I reacalculated the timings and since my sunrises and sunstes are animated, they are perfectly synchronized to the minute)

3RD PARTY ADDITIONS:

- integrated StalkerSkies (by Combragol) - SS textures mixed with the vanilla ones to create the best sky transitions and sun travel possible

- clear weather in yantar, dark valley, pripyat, stancia etc. - all of those use the same cycle as cordon, garbage etc. (original solution for this taken from Oblivion Lost Project by Kanyhalos)

- Float32 Shaders by jjwalker. Currently included version is the newest Float32_1.7112b vesrion (please check out readme and license documents located in the float32 > docs folder in this package)

AUTHORS NOTE:

This mod started out as a little tweak to the weather cycle which was used in the Oblivion Lost mod. During my work on it I started to change more and more variables, replace the sky textures, create new periods and so on... At some point I decided to animate sunrises and sunsets. The effect is almost toatally new cycle with almost everything customized in order to make the weather in STALKER the most realistic and eye-pleasing experience.

The feature which I am pesonally most proud of is the totally new lighting system - it is sun-based meaning that the only real source of light is the sun. As we all know the sun does not shine in the same way during the day - the light intensity, color, direction change dynamically as the sun makes it's voyage form east to west. Not to mention other factors such as clouds, fog, rain all those things have their role in the outcome of the light the sum gives.
My aim was too reproduce this effect in the Stalker world, to make the sun light realistically transformed during the whole cycle. If think I managed to acheive this aim.
For example let's take the mid-day afternoon settings when the bright sun, without any obstacles shines above the STALKER world giving it warm, summer feeling. The color of it saturated yellow and the intensity of it makes bright surfaces to shine. After this the sun starts to collapse, the light becomes more and more orange too finally become blood red - when the day is finishing with an effective, dynamic sun-set.
Other example - the mornings - first, pale sings of the coming day are soon replaced by a warm, rose-coloured beams of the rising sun and when it finally appears above the horizon - you are almost overhelmed with the intensity of the light it gives. At the same time the morning fog starts to fade. The world has just received colors again. I think it's rewarding to survive the night and be able to witness this.
Also don't forget to check out the new rain and storm periods - there is the one session during the night and one during the day.

I hope you'll enjoy my mod and give me some feedback about it, so I can make the future versions even better. I also would like to thank all the ppl who tweaked the STALKER weather before me, I checked almost all the tweaks available before I emabarked on creating my own. All of them had thay role in inspiring me - and I would like to credit their authors for it. So please check the list of credits below.

FUTURE AIMS:

- customizing the night-time sky texture (possibly creating the new one) - so that there are more stars visible but without sacrificing the darkness

- implementing realistic sun flares - don't know if it's even possible since it's a pretty buggy feature at the moment

TECHNICAL NOTIFICATION:

- this mod shoul be compatible with any other mod that does not tweak the weather.

- if the mod chages the weather cycle in Stalker, and you would like to use my settings instead, I think it is only a matter of replacing the weather_deafult.ltx and adding textures from my package to textures > sky. There are three exceptions of this that i can think of at the moment:

* if you use any version of STAKERSkies - delete your entire texture > sky folder and replace it with the one from this package. My mod contains the stalkerskies textures but the files are renamed (they have the _ss ending) - this is beacause in my mod the SS textures work togheter with vanilla ones intead of replacing them.

* if you use a mod that features chaotic weather (like ABC Inferno) - i don't know if it can be made compatible - didn't look in the matter so far

* i remeber there where some mods which changed the tempo of the game clock - sun-rise and sun-set animation required some neat synchronization to work fine - and I don't know if changing the tempo of game clock will not affect this.

- it essential to use the Float32 shaders ancluded in the package. Lighting settings in this mod are totally depended on it!

- at the moment I don't know if this mod will slow the game down on weaker mashines - for me it does not reduce FPS. If I have an info that this mod causes a performance hit - i'll tweak it or create the optional version for weaker computers so don't worry (my mashine is e6750 @ 3,2 and 8800 GTS 640)

- also since I changed the visibiluty and fog distance settings it can have some impact on AI detection behavior - i did not see this mod to cause any problems in this matter in vanilla and in few common mods (Redux, OLP) i tested it with, but - who knows

- mod was intended to be used with Full Dynamic Lighting but it should work fine with Objects Dynamic Lighting - some features such as dynamic sun sahdow will not work but everything else will

- mod should work in Static Lighting - but I cannot guarantee the effects

- if you tweaked the user.ltx in any way (for exapmle by replacing it with the one from Ultra Graphics or Realism Graphics mods to unlock some additional effects) make shure that the following lines go like this - these are the vanilla settings (everything else ahould be fine):

r2_sun_lumscale 1.0
r2_sun_lumscale_amb 1.0
r2_sun_lumscale_hemi 1.0

- also for best effects use the following brightness / contrast / gamma settings:

rs_c_brightness 1.0 (in the game the slider is in the middle)
rs_c_contrast 1.2 (the slider two "clicks" to the right)
rs_c_gamma 1.2(the slider two "clicks" to the right)

- also if you enocunter the common STALKER shadow bug (related with widescreen). Chnage the following line to this:

r2_sun_near_border 1.0

- finally if you would like to have shadows keep higher resolution on bigger distances change this:

r2_sun_near 30 (by dafault it's 12, I play on 45. be advised - it causes performance hit!)

- for the "shotcut" to the above you can use the included user.ltx (it goes to documents and settings > all users > stalker-shoc directory). This is the file that the game created by itself on my computer when deleted, than I set FDL and 1280 res. Other changes are only those listed above (the sun_near is conservatively set to 15). Note that you'll have to rebind your keys and re-adjust your other settings after this.

- if you are interested in the textures i used in the screenshots - search for the following:

S.H.A.R.P.E.R. textures pack (v. 0.95)
Sky4CE -=SkyGRAPHICS=- MOD (i use only textures from it - no shaders)
LessGenericSRB by jrmy

INSTALATION:

0. install float32 from the setup included (check docs for reference)

0.5 delete (move) the gamedata > textures > sky folder if you have it

1. copy the gamedata from the package to your main Stalker intallation dir

1.5 OPTIONAL: copy the contents of "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.Weather_Overhauled_v.1.0_dark_night s_quick_fix.rar"to your main stalker dir in order to make nights less dark (check the links section)

2. OPTIONAL: copy the included user.ltx into documents and settings > all users > stalker-shoc to get the proper gamma contrast brightness settings and to fix some common stalker shadow bugs (check the last point of the TECHNICAL NOTIFICATION above). WARNING: ypu'll have too rebind your keys nad re-adjust your other game settings after this

NOTE

if you did not install use any mods previously - in the fsgame.ltx (main STALKER dir) change the first line into:

$game_data$ = true| true| $fs_root$|

MOVIES:

#1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Th_9PQF428 - this movie starts ar about 1pm at agroprom - it shows the settings used during the mid-day, full sun session in Agroprom. Than i use the sleepbag to sleep 3 hours - to show how the lighting and shadow changed, mre near the evening.

#2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9IF9ILKb2s - this video atarts at 3am at Military Base. It's purpose is to present the sunrise animation. I climb the central watch tower to have a better view.

#3 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-XyQNy-SSQ - this prsentation takes place in Bar at 3pm. I wanted to show how this industrial area is lighted up during the mid-day.

#4 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SwwSvtq9JA - this movie presents the sunset at Warehauses area. I think this particular feature of my mod turned up pretty nice . Please note that video turned uot significantly darker than the game itself - check the screenshots for reference.
