This new design has been the subject of a very odd but interesting naming discussion over the last month - check it out here . After much deliberation and suspect names suggested (like the Nero and Formiclae Class) the German scientist Planck won out - therefore we now have the Planck Class Starship!
The Planck is designed as a science ship with battleship qualities (heavy science ship). She is 503m long and has a deflector which combines the technologies from the Intrepid and the Sovereign classes. She was built in November 2378 and became famous as U.S.S. Monygham NCC-1407-A. After the U.S.S. Monygham NCC-1407 was destroyed by Romulan battle ships in 2374, it was clear that she does need better weapons and shields. As a result the U.S.S. Monygham NCC-1407-A can deal easily with Romulan ships, but since 2379 (after Nemesis) this quality was not needed anymore and she does not really use her qualities often. An interesting new aspect are the side firing torpedo tubes which allow new strategic manoeuvres. The new invented PCBs (Power Core Booster) allow her a high impulse speed and a better use of its deflector.
I have been requested to keep the description short and I will try my best but let me just say that this ship is top quality! And the images prove it. It is part of our ever growing Starship Contest list. So check this starship out and bask in all its glory!
