Vs. Mission Template

mission_template.zip

Description

Fellow modder Chessmess brings us a tutorial for creating simple 'versus missions', the type whereby you win if you destroy all the enemy ships. Included within this template is the following:

  • A fully working Vs. scenario, where you win if you destroy all the enemy ships and lose if you are destroyed.
  • Ability to add an allied fleet to help the player.
  • Ability to enable Allied Fleet to follow a ship that hails it.
  • Simple Cinematic, a default cinematic you can enable for your mission
  • Easily define enemy and allied fleet tactical stance.
  • Easily define enemy and allied fleet visibility to sensors.

The files included are annotated in simple terms so that even a newbie scripter could get to grips with this in no-time at all. It's worth having a play around with, even if you only create one but be sure to send your missions to us here at Legacy Files! Please note that you require the Legacy mission editor tool to use the template.

Big thanks to Chessmess!

-Michael.

"Now marks the time in which many here in the United States dress up in costumes and either attend parties or travel the streets in search of Candy. I know I'll have a full schedule taking my daughters around to friends and family to collect loads of candy for me.. I mean for them to feast on.

I couldn't forget our faithful group here so I offer the Star Trek Legacy modding community a special treat. Attached to this news posting is the first release of a Star Trek Legacy Vs. Mission template. I wrote the template to enable mappers and new to legacy scripters a way to easily get a working mission without having to know anything about programming.

Its a simple script but provides the following features:

        * A fully working Vs. scenario, where you win if you destroy all the enemy ships and lose if you are destroyed.
        * Ability to add an allied fleet to help the player.
        * Ability to enable Allied Fleet to follow a ship that hails it.
        * Simple Cinematic, a default cinematic you can enable for your mission
        * Easily define enemy and allied fleet tactical stance.
        * Easily define enamy and allied fleet visibility to sensors.

All the instructions on what to do are documented as a to-do list in the header section of the script file. Configuring the script requires no programming experience or knowledge, simply edit the configuration variables, put the required objects on your Legacy map, compile the mission and your done!

It is my hope that in creating this mappers can easily create custom Vs. scenarios and mod groups can use it as is or build upon it.

I'm happy to build upon it and add additional functionality if anyone wants it and it fits with the Vs. scenario. Just post the request here, I'll review it, and if it fits and time allows I'll add it to the base template. I'll update the script in this post with changes. Enjoy!

Special thanks goes to gdata for being both the scripts inspiration and its tireless tester! Thanks!!"
