This sides mod by 666rulerofclones is a step above his previous work. The main thrust of the mod is replacing most of the weapons with rifles, in an attempt to "balance" gameplay.
There are a number of reasons why this doesn't really work that way. The sweeping replacement of most weapons with rifles (pistols were replaced with rifles) has the exact opposite effect on unit-to-unit balance. Most classes in the stock game are fairly well balanced, but switching up weapons does a number on any mitigating factors in their balance. For example, the heavy trooper class now has both a rifle and a rocket launcher, in addition to his secondary armaments. This puts him a touch above where he should be. The same effect happens in reverse with the Magnaguard. His miniature rocket launcher (Bulldog) has been replaced with a basic rifle - making him a shadow of what he was.
The thing that confuses me the most though is the Republic officer's chaingun. For all this talk of balance, that is now certainly an unbalanced weapon. It sticks out so badly against all the other weapons, which feel, for the most part, normal. It fires faster, and fires larger ordnances with higher damages. It just doesn't make a lot of sense.
Technically, it's a very sound job, even if most of the changes were minor. The only real issues were that the HUD for the chaingun was wrong and there was no sound on the chaingun.
Give it a try if you want, but I wouldn't buy into it as a "balance" mod. Remember to back up any side files as this will replace default game files.
IMPORTANT: You need WinRAR or 7-zip to extract this file! This is my Battlefront 2 Sides Expansion Mod. It makes major changes to the sides. First up is the fact that I have replaced all pistols and shotguns with rifles. The regular trooper carries 600 rounds for his rifle and has a commando pistol, the rocketeer carries 7-10 rockets and a rifle (200 rounds), the sniper carries a sniper rifle (56-96 rounds), and a rifle (200 rounds). The engineer is the same except that his rifle has 200-250 rounds. The officer and special units now have a blaster rifle (200-250 rounds). The weapons are the same except that the chaingun has been beefed up ALOT!. It is as powerful as a rifle and fires about five times faster, has 100 rounds per clip, ad the units carry 400 rounds. The G.C.W. officers have been changed too. The Imperial Officer's Sonic Blaster (which i hate sooo bad), has been replaced by a rifle. The Bothan Spy has a rifle, incinerator, stealth, and a recon droid. The Magnaguards Bulldog (hate that gun too), has been replaced by a rifle. I think that this mod balanced the game a little better, and I can still win as any side,although it would seem that the Republic and Rebels would WAAAAAAAY overpower their enemies, gameplay is still very even. The chaingun, by the way, uses Caleb1117's trigun model (awesome!). I think most of you will like this. Installation: Extremly easy, after you've unpacked the .7z file (using either 7-zip or WinRAR), move the files to Gamedatadata_lvl_pcside and DON'T FORGET TO BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL FILES FIRST!
