This readme should always accompany these models wherever they go. Is that too much to ask? I think not. Description of the Modification: ------------------------------- These six Ferengi capital ship meshes and the colorful Ferengi Class Designations are based on Ferengi Alliance Ship Designs found in Microprose's Star Trek: The Next Generation "Birth of the Federation." These are original meshes based on eyeball estimates of scale and proportion. The textures are also derived im large part from Microprose's Star Trek: The Next Generation Birth of the Federation. However, those textures were made for much smaller, lower detail models. Consequently, I've had to add considerable detail to the textures to make them fit the larger SFC models. The break textures are 8-bit. The main flight textures are 24-bit. The break models are the original ones that were converted from the old Hydran dreadnought break model. The textures for these are the original textures from Trunks. I incorporated part of the Trunks texture set into the textures for the main Ferengi flight models. The textures for the Ferengi Shuttle "Quark's Treasure" were designed by Jonathan Pitt. Models were converted from Lightwave format to SFC MOD format by Brad Barr's SCME utility. This Starfleet Command the Next Generation Ferengi Mod contains: Quark's Treasure Greed Class Shuttle Bronta Class Raider Scout N'Gort Class Privateer Raider T'Korn Class Clipper Cruiser Goront Class Pillager Heavy Cruiser Ooron Class Plunderer Heavy Assault Cruiser D'Kora Class Marauder Dreadnought Break models for each of the six capital ship Meshes One set Generic set of Ferengi Textures applicable to all models Screen shots of Ferengi vessels. I've created one set of Ferengi models organized by fleet. I've also created dedicated downloads for each vessel. The fleet download zip file includes two sets of flight textures, one for the three larger vessels, (D'Kora, Ooron and Goront) and another for the smaller vessels (T'Korn, N'Gort and Bronta) to minimize the size of the download. The Ferengi Greed Class shuttle has its own dedicated textures. The D'Kora Marauder Model measures 520 meters in scaled 1:20 as with all Models at Utopia Planitia. The Goront Class Light Dreadnought at 620 meters is longer than the D'Kora class, but it is a much less massive vessel because of it's narrow beam. The Ooron class Battlecruiser is the old Battleship of the Ferengi Alliance. It is shorter and smaller than the D'Kora class, but still more massive than the Goront Class. All other Ferengi vessels are much smaller than the three large capital ships. They are built to the same 1:20 scale. In descending order of length, they are: T'Korn, N'Gort and Bronta. The Bronta Class Raider Scout is somewhat smaller than the Federation Defiant Class Heavy Escort and much less capable. The Ferengi shuttle comes in two sizes. The shuttle modelled here is the smaller version which was featured in "DS9: Little Green Men." Technical Details: ----------------- Tested successfully in SFC version 1.00, 1.01, 102.01 and 1.03 History: -------- The history, culture and technology of the Ferengi Alliance was based mostly on misconception, fear, rumor, myth and innuendo until 2364 when the Galaxy Class USS Enterprise-D encountered a Ferengi D'Kora Class Marauder Battleship near planet Gamma Tauri IV [TNG, "The Last Outpost]. After this, the Federation began to expand into areas where the Ferengi Alliance had extensive commercial contracts and economic interests in place. Federation diplomacy managed to avert armed conflict with Ferenginar, but there were occasional incidents that might have led to wider hostilities had not cooler heads prevailed. [TNG: The Battle, Peak Performance, The Price, Menage a Troi, Rascals]. Previous to 2364 there were sporadic encounters with Ferengi capital ships, [TNG: The Battle]. The most notable was in 2355 near the star system designated by Ferengi Astrogators as "Maxia." The so-called "Battle of Maxia" was where the young Captain of the Constellation class USS Stargazer improvised a warp micro-burst maneuver later called by Starfleet Academy tacticians "The Picard Maneuver." In this battle the inferior Stargazer successfully defended itself against a heavily-armed Goront Class Heavy Assault Cruiser. The Ferengi starship was destroyed. The Stargazer lost power and life support and was abandoned. All attempts to engage the Ferengi Alliance in some type of productive relationship were spurned until the discovery of the Bajoran wormhole. Once the Federation established control over the wormhole, and consequentially unfettered commericial access to the Gamma Quadrant, the Ferengi Alliance began to view diplomatic relations with the Federation in a more....profitable light. The Ferengi Alliance settled into an easy, informal neutrality with Earth. At times, the relationship seemed almost...friendly, which meant that the Ferengi would lie to, steal from, victimize and cheat Federation citizens slightly less frequently than other aliens who didn't own a wormhole. Ferengi Capital ships are armed with Type VII phaser technology pilfered from older salvaged alien vessels. The Ferengi heavy weapon, however, is an advanced plasma cannon. It is capable of discharging a powerful plasma burst capable of disabling an unprepared Galaxy Class vessel at close range.
