The myriad of rivers and lakes crisscrossing its surface were harnessed for a planet-wide hydroelectric scheme and the young colony flourished. But Gelu has a long period, highly elliptical orbit – a fact inexplicably overlooked when it was colonized. As the planet moved inexorably toward aphelion, the global temperature plummeted and the surface was transformed into a frozen wasteland. Gelu’s water was trapped as ice thereby rendering the hydroelectric facilities inoperable. The inhospitable conditions and a lack of electricity caused the collapse of the colony and it was abandoned. One person’s loss is another’s gain. The Liandri Corporation capitalized on the collapse of the colony – one Gelu’s frozen hydroelectric facilities is the latest CTF arena for Unreal Tournament.
