Author's Description:

I started this map with a bunch of imagery; old, abandoned playgrounds, forgotten toys, lost happiness. In fact, I had originally envisioned this level as greyscale, to really push the "old" feel (with brightly colored UT characters and weapon effects, it would make a cool contrast) but I didn't really have the time to develop the texture set for that. So instead I went for muted yellow sunlight, burnt clouds, a bit of snow, and a bunch of old toys from my youth. Most of you are probably too young to remember things like "Gnip Gnop" or "Merlin", so we'll call those "in jokes" for the very few who would know what they are.

Sandbox is really just an experiment in scale, seeing if normally small things could work in a monumental scale. I built almost all of the meshes (except the excellent dead tree and the shrubs) and made a lot of original textures, thus the heavy download. I'm a big fan of LowGrav-InstaGib, so this map tends to work well for that.

Copyright 2002-2003

DeathMatch map - 4-12 people

Instructions: THe ZIP file includes a static mesh package, a texture package, and a map file. For those unfamiliar with the UT filing system: place the map file [DM-Sandbox.ut2] in your UT2003 "MAPS" directory. Place the texture package [Sandbox_tex.utx] in the TEXTURES directory, and finally place the mesh package [Sandbox_meshes.usx] in the STATICMESHES directory. Then fire up UT2003 and you should see a SANDBOX map in your DM list.
