============================================================= 'FACEOFF UT2003 ALPHA 1.0' "README" 10.07.2003 ============================================================= Welcome to 'FACEOFF UT2003 alpha 1.0' - a total conversion for Unreal Tournament 2003! ============================================================= INDEX: ============================================================= 01 Introduction 02 History 03 Requirements & Recommendations 04 Installation 05 Configuration 06 Credits 07 Special Thanks & Greetings ============================================================= 01 Introduction: ============================================================= This README file should simplify your 'FO' installation, and should help you to configure the mod. I hope to avoid some possible problems and FAQ with it. You also get some additional infos, for example about the development history. Now let me introduce myself: I'm Hegi, the one sole person behind this mod. Thank you for downloading 'FO'. I hope you'll enjoy playing! It would be great to get some feedback from you on the offical 'FO' website forum. >>> http://www.faceoffgame.de <<< ============================================================= 02 History: ============================================================= First I want to give you a short summary about the 'FO' History: Before I started the development of 'FO' for UT2003, there were several 'FO' versions for the Quake 3 engine, but they've never been published. I made my first trials and learnd more and more about editing, programming and designing a mod. Everyone has to learn by experience and that's what I did over the years. Now I can proudly say the work was worthwhile, because the result is the current version of 'FO'. When I played UT2003 for the first time, I thought: "Hey, that's exactly the engine I need, to create what I want" and so I started my first steps with the UT2003 engine on Oktober the 5th 2002. In retrospect, it was a cool trip between fun and very hard work, with some ups and downs, but altogether I really enjoyed it. A critcal situation arose after April the 14th, the day I announced FO, subsequent all what I did seem to fail and end up in a disaster. Actually I never had the intent to announce my mod before its alpha 1.0 version would be finished. I just made this mistake because I was fed up of working alone all the time. I thought some additional help could essential facilitate the mod, but unfortunately the response wasn't as good as I expected. Lot's of people contacted me and I was chatting the whole day instead of keep on concentrating work. I must say I hate chatting; developing is much cooler because chatting does not make a mod. The key means work instead of words! There have been some guys which contacted me who seemed to fit to 'FO', but in the end they decieved or disappointed me. I was nearby to break off 'FO', so the circumstances led to a development break of six weeks till the day I heard from epics mod contest. After its announcement I decided to revive the development. It continued and I'am still an army of one development team. ============================================================= 03 Requirements & Recommendations: ============================================================= To play 'FO' you will need the following things: - An installed UT2003 full version & the latest UT2003 Retail Patch V.2225. - A computer that will run UT2003, the hardware requirements are almost the same. - Current graphic drivers are advantageous. My personal recommendation: 2,4ghz pentium 4 prozessor, 512 MB DDR RAM, and a Geforce 4 - or higher. ('FO' was made with a pc containing the preceding data) ============================================================= 04 Installation: ============================================================= -Extract all the content included in the "Faceoff_Alpha10.zip" file into your UT2003 directory. You can launch Faceoff then via the "Faceoff.bat" file wich is located in the Ut2003/Faceoff directory. -The UT2Mod version also generates a shortcut "Faceoff.ink" which you should find in your start menu. -Mac and Linux users have to manually create their shortcut files with the following command line parameters: ut2003.exe FONVidiaLogo?INI=Faceoff.ini USERINI=FaceoffUSER.ini -log=Faceoff.log ============================================================= 05 Configuration: ============================================================= Before you start a battle you should configure the game in conformity with your personal wishes, do this by clicking on "Game Settings", there you can switch through the several categories. Optimizing your video & audio settings is very important. Finally give yourself a name in the player menu, and don't forget to customize your controls. Now you are ready to play. Go back to the main menu, and choose Online/Lan Games to mess with other players online or in a network. If you want a quick battle against bots, click on instant action. Everything you can set in the game menu should explain itself. When you start a game, the ingame menu should pop up. If no menu pops up, configure the "Game Menu" button in the controls section and press it to bring up the game menu. Now prepare for battle and choose your equipment, good luck! ============================================================= 06 Credits: ============================================================= Programmer, Modeller, Animator, Mapper, Skinner...: Michael 'Hegi' Hegemann. ============================================================= 07 Special Thanks & Greetings: ============================================================= Pavi: He believed in FO all the time and supported the development from the start.
