File Description

Reproduction is such a tricky issue... So why leave it to blind fate? In modern society, perpetuation of the species is completely controlled. In this autonomous factory, embryos are created, grown, and immunized with utter efficiency. Producing more or less intelligent offspring is simply a matter of adjusting variables. Is there anything technology can't do? Now open to the tournaments, this life-giving compound is the perfect place for humanity's favorite blood sport. Inspired by the novel 'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley.

Reproduction is such a tricky issue... So why leave it
to blind fate? In modern society, perpetuation of the
species is completely controlled. In this autonomous
factory, embryos are created, grown, and immunized with
utter efficiency. Producing more or less intelligent
offspring is simply a matter of adjusting variables. Is

Finally, back to CTF. I love this gametype, and I don't
know why it's been so long since I made a map like this.
I appologize for the slightly confusing layout. The trickiest
part is the triple-decked tube, where the level that you enter
at determines your route. Hopefully you will have a good time
with this setup, though. Obviously, I went for theme points
(as usual), and if I succeeded this level will get quite spooky
once you notice egg-encased embryos floating everywhere. Even
though my initial concept came from 'Brave New World', the
actual architectural style is very abstract and a little
Matrix-y in my opinion. With some luck performance will be
acceptable, but if you have trouble, check out my "Note on
framerates" below. Good luck!

Author's Notes
--------------
As I always say, have fun with this one. Also, read the
novel "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley, it is a darn
good book! Let me know what you think at MrCRPoole@aol.com

NOTE ON FRAMERATES: I you have performance trouble,
emitters are probably the culprit. Turn your visual detail
down from high and those suckers should go away, which should
fix the FPS. Let me know if you still have problems...

CHANGES SINCE BETA: I had many suggestions for the level, and
took each into careful consideration. For example, I spent
quite a while trying to decide whether to lower the top of the
killzone in the central room such that players could stand on
certain lights... I decided on no, to prevent camping. Also,
I had to stick with my good friend the sniper rifle instead of
the lightning gun. Plus, while I improved the texturing on the big
spider head, I didn't manage to completely fix it... Oh well! At
least one tester had alpha channel conflicts, hopefully these
will be rare. Optimization was left as-is, since most people had
acceptable FPS. Send me an email if you would like an LE edition
with reduced visual doodads and nsmoother operation. Anyway, actual
changes: Distance fog starts closer to player, a material type tag
is fixed, lights in the central room have blocking volumes, and
the area behind the hologram is pathed. A big thanks to all
playtesters! Biggest change of all: Sjosz's awesome redo of the
pathing. This guy can path like you wouldn't believe. I owe him!
