It took me long enough to squash them all =8) ==================================================================== Comments ==================================================================== CTF-Oppressive_2k4 is an enhanced remake of my map CTF-Oppressive for UT99. I was aiming for a dark, forboding, oppressive atmosphere, a place that makes one uneasy by just standing in it. I think I succeeded quite well, although I am obviously not an unbiased judge. While making the map, I measured the time it took to run from one flag base to the other in the UT99 version, then did the same in the 2k4 version. It turned out that the run took 10% longer in the UT99 version, so I scaled up the 2k4 version accordingly so both maps would have the same apparent size. UnrealEd3 has a very neat scaling tool that made this easy, and it explains why many of the BSP brushes and static meshes are not aligned on the grid. This has no effect that I could measure on the map's appearance or performance. I did my best to optimize performance as well as possible. My system has an Athlon 2100+ cpu, 512 megs of ram and a Gforce4 TI4200 video card with 128 megs of ram. On that system, and despite the complexity of the maps's BSP and the great number of static meshes, I get about 40 fps average with seven bots, 1152x864 resolution and every settings at good or above. There are some spots where performance goes down as low as 25 fps and others where it reaches 100 fps. Your mileage may vary. The bots are very effective in this map. They use all possible approaches to the bases, they defend their flag very well and they will often ambush you on routes you thought were safe. Some of the custom meshes were done with Milkshape 1.7.0 and some were made by converting BSP brushes. Yes I know, I should not use that technique because of the problems it can cause, but the resulting meshes look good, work well, and there were much easier to make that way. I have tested the completed map with a second install of UT2004 that only had the files that came with the game. That way, I identified all custom files used in the map and included them in the zip. Everything you need is in there, guarantied. If you already have those files, no need to overwrite them. Finally, I included the Eclipse.ogg music file in the zip, for those who do not have it. I'm not exactly sure where it came from, probably from one of the CBP or Epic bonus packs, but I know it's not part of the UT2k4 list, so I included it to make sure anyone playing the map has it.
