Desparate was I, and deeper I delved Into the forbidden and profane. My lust for wealth began to sublimate Into murderous perversions of flesh and hate. So many innocents I partook from the village... ...they served me well." Gilles de Laval de Rais, a 15th century Frenchman, is thought to be the precursor to the modern day serial killer. "The Pious Monster" was an aristrocrat, a soldier and a raper, torturer and killer of many innocent children.

The authors would like to thank individuals who provided assets for this level: SaKa for the custom banners (great work) [BIOS] for setting up the great looking moonlight color and providing weapon placement suggestions/feedback along the way. Hazel for creating a custom skybox for this map. www.hazelwhorley.com Hourences and his great texture packs ZTN for the bone meshes/textures as seen in DM-UCMP2-Taron Moonflyer for allowing us to use the waving spiderweb meshes (made by Dregs) Krolizard for the jump pads meshes/textures from DM-Blatha2 (I apologize if Krolizard is upset for the use of these assets. I attempted to contact Krolizard via email on several occasions and my messages came back 'undeliverable'.) All the outstanding feedback from the UCMP team and the TCMP team. Myleene Klass for her rendition of Bach's Toccata Special thanks to former bandmate, Sean Curry, for writing such a disturbing song that inspired me to attempt to recreate Gilles' realm. **For complete song lyrics, visit http://axeman.badstreak.com/nfs.htm Spoken word instrumental can be found at http://axeman.badstreak.com** Author Notes by Axeman -------------------- I started this level with a basic floorplan (my first original) and an image in my head of a mood and atmosphere I wanted to create. Early in the construction i met Sjosz who really helped me and pushed me to create that atmosphere in my head. Without his constant pressure and endless screenshot feedback, Gilles would have been released after the 4th or 5th beta and not be nearly the level it is. Gilles has been a learning process and the experience of the last 6-7 months will help me greatly on future projects. Author Notes by Sjosz --------------------- Early in the map's development (back when Axe was still planning this to be a CTF map named Castigated *shivers*) I met Axeman and thought I could help him out a little with feedback. Over time, however, I got attached to both the level and Axeman's great attitude, looking at his own map critically and literally always open for feedback. This caused me to give more feedback than he bargained for, sending me an impressive amount of 18 full beta builds before this passed on to a final candidate (which took another build to get to final), improving the smallest things without hesitation or complaining that I was nitpicking (which I admittedly was). I'm honoured and proud to be on the author line, but Axeman deserves the most credit for his relentless work trying to get it as perfect as it can be.
