A violent lightning storm roars high above the rolling hills of Na Pali, while it's last drops of water wash away some of the spilled blood in the once sacred Nali Temple of Taron. Desacrated and raided for it's priceless artifacts, the temple now withstands time as a remnant of a past civilisation. Only a giant Nali statue remains there now, as strangers wander in to further the temple's decay

Only a giant Nali statue remains there now, as strangers wander in to further the temple's decay..... Credits ------- First of all, Epic for making this awesome game. Secondly, the entire UCMP team for playtesting and suggesting changes. Dregs, for his never ending upbeat criticism and very useful suggestions, not to mention permitting us to use some stuff from his cDOM-DMP-Cryptic. Saka, for creating the awesome Nali statue mesh per request. Taaske, for letting us use the custom spiderweb textures. Joe Swinback, for inspiring us with DM-Echo, and for letting us use the custom textures from that same map. Moonflyer, for letting us use the waving spiderweb meshes (made by Dregs), and for letting us use other assets from his DM-UCMP-Bloodrun. Hourences, for the semi-solids tutorial with which we solved some very annoying HOMs/BSP errors. Author Notes by BIOS -------------------- I don't really have much to add to what Sjosz says below. The initial idea was that this map was going to be called DM-David and use the theme from DM-Goliath. (David and Goliath...heh.) Fortunately this marginally interesting idea was voted out of the map and it became DM-Taron. Sjosz mentions 10 alpha versions, but that doesn't count the dozen or so false starts I had on the layout. This layout didn't come out easy, but in the end I think it was worth the hassle. Author Notes by Sjosz --------------------- Before solid plans for UCMP2 came up, and even before release of the first UCMP volume, BIOS and me decided to do something together. Initially, we meant to build this map for MichaelM's mapping contest, but as time and construction progressed, we both realised that the deadline for this contest could not be made unless we finished it rashly, which we luckily didn't do. The map's goal then became to be a good joint-venture between us, as a single map release. However, UCMP released the first volume, and we started working on a second volume. Just for feedback we decided to post the map on the UCMP forums, and after some testing it became evident that this map had plenty of potential. Thus, the choice was made for this map to be part of UCMP's second volume. At any rate, I hope that whoever plays this map enjoys it as much as I enjoyed working together with BIOS on this map. Any kind of constructive feedback is highly appreciated. Construction Notes ------------------ So how did we co-author this map? BIOS worked out the complete layout, and altered it to perfection with my, and the UCMP team's feedback. Then BIOS laid out the weapons and other pickups, and we moved those around until they felt perfect as well. In total there were over 10 gameplay alpha version before we were satisfied. When gameplay-wise all was well, the visual construction began, and that's where Sjosz came in. The map started out with a very high-tech, Doom3 like theme, but after long consideration, and inspired by DM-Echo, by Joe Swinback, the theme changed to an ancient temple setting. Initially, all the arches in the map were BSP, like in DM-Echo, but to increase performance they changed to a mesh, made by BIOS. The same goes for the terrain mesh, at first it was a terrainzoneinfo, but because this decreased the possibilities for zoning the map, it became a mesh as well, also made by BIOS. The visual construction has taken plenty of time as well, with the constant addition of little details, or small tweaks that had to be made. Finally, the map is finished. Topping things off with a Nali statue mesh, made by Saka, the map plays and looks better than the both of us had expected when we began working together.
