I'm a huge fan of the quirky British Sci-Fi comedy known as Red Dwarf. It's a cult hit, and huge in countries all around the world. I've been watching it for as long as I can remember (the first series aired way back in 1988, so it's been going a LONG time). The one thing Red Dwarf has always lacked in all these decades however is a decent video game outing, except for the recent mobile games which weren't too bad.
So this is why I get overly excited whenever I see a Red Dwarf mod out in the wild, and I've even authored a few myself. This new mod for XCOM 2 is particularly great, as the asthetics and visuals of both the game and the Red Dwarf series are a perfect match for each other.
The mod adds the voices (and some basic character changes) to bring Rimmer (Chris Barrie), Lister (Craig Charles), Cat (Danny John-Jules), Kryten (Robert Llewelyn) and Holly (Norman Lovett) into the game. It includes over 1,000 classic lines from the TV series, and honestly, in this new setting it cracks me up every time.
The mod is based on an earlier attempt, as the mod author states on his Steam Workshop page, but has really built up ammount of dialog for each character significantly. It includes lines from all 12 series of Red Dwarf, from the early BBC days to the latest Dave-era outings.
And the good news is more is to come;
Tis mod isn't quite finished yet as I've only done the main cast, I need to do another pass through the series and see how many lines I could get for Kochanski (Series 7 and 8, Chloë Annett) and Female Holly (Series 2-5, Hattie Hayridge) and also any lines I missed for the main five.
So, I may be overly enthusiastic for this one given my love of Red Dwarf, but if you also even slightly enjoy the series, check this mod out.
And if you haven't seen Red Dwarf, then, go watch it. They're on Netflix.
